Zipidy's Week 11:12/10/04 |
If you get a bunch of windows opening - you've been spammed! This is what they teach you in college! This last week I finalized the javascript spammer code. My code seems to work in Internet Explorer, but not Mozilla. I had this idea that I would add a spammer object that was associated with the array objects, and that each time the page loaded it would created a cookie corresponding to the array object. The function would delete the cookie each time so another random function could call a new array object (each array object spawining a new window). It didn't work out the way I planned. I'm now wondering if there could have been a simpler way. I did get my cookie writing down, as well as spammer windows, so that was rewarding. |

Zipidy's Week 10:12/3/04 |
We finally got our new mail server at work. I updated all the clients, and then started implementing a plan to shut down the old mail server. We were obsoleting the old opti-tech.com domain, so manually set up autoreply messages for all the mailboxes on the old server to that effect. We were only getting opti-tech mail in on the old server, and all the other mail was coming in beautifully on the new system. Then it happened. All hell broke loose, and the old mail system started choking on some of the autoreply messages, which started looping on some of the aliases! I spent most of Wednesday, trying to stop it, and cleaning out the garbage, but it just kept coming. Most of our spam has been coming to the old domain, so the autoreply messages were being returned to "never never land" AND THEN BOUNCING BACK. I knew I should have just shut down the mail server. I had a feeling it wasn't going to stay stable over the long four day weekend. And I was right. The system was frozen, and would not reboot come Monday morning. When I forced it, it spit back at me "bad kernel, bad kernel, bad kernel." Anyway, we pronounced it dead, and now I have to get the fax service set up on the NT Server (since the old archaic box was home for that bit of software). And I have to move the NT Server into the server cubby. And I have to sort out all the tangled cables from years of abuse. I moved a couple of routers up a shelf, dusted , and unmangled a dozen or so cables, then it happened - the shelf fell down with two routers, a switchbox, a keyboard, and a mouse. Thank God, it wasn't the monitor and printer shelf! Anyway, I decided to call it a day, wrote a lengthy explanation of why the server cubby was a mess and emailed it to the early birds, checked to make sure the network was still up, locked up, set the alarm, chained the parking lot gate, and called it a day! Whew! What an adventure! (I just had to share my story - and now for a spot of tea.) | ||||
Zipidy's Week 9:11/26/04 |
This is Thanksgiving week. I am so blessed and highly favored by so many of those I cross paths with. At times I am amazed at the influence I have over people. I would not even have a clue if they didn't tell me (that I have that kind of effect on my environment). I am thankful that I have so much, and have for the most part had it so much better than 98% of the people on this earth. Roxy got her first haircut this week. She looks more like the Airedale than shaggy Briard now. Ron & I spent the morning trying to clip her. It was difficult to cut a moving dog's hair! After an hour or so, she began to get tired. Unfortunately, so did we. She still looks much better than she did, and hopefully we can keep her brushed better with shorter hair. |

Zipidy's Week 8:11/19/04 |
This has been a difficult week for me. Trying to get the assignment to work was frustrating. It occurred to me that the chances of seeing if it will work would be hard to demonstrate if the cookie was set and not to show up for 7 days, and that in order to test it, we'd have to set the cookie to expire in one minute. This assignment has me so confused, I'm not sure how I will able recover! I would really like to see the solution to this challenging assignment! |

Zipidy's Week 7:11/12/04 |
blog! blog! blog! Isn't the purpose of a blog to interact with others out there in the world? You know - like a bulletin board where people respond to what you say, and add their own thoughts? |

Zipidy's Week 6:11/5/04 |
It is eleven hours ahead in Iraq where my step son, David is. It is already the next day, and he is hopefully sleeping and getting ready to wake up and face the day. I wonder what he will do, and if he is avoiding danger. |

Zipidy's Week 5:10/29/04 |
It's easy to look at feelings like an enemy, but it's just necessary to deal with them. One of my old little doggie friends died this weekend. She was the second little doggie friend to die this year. Sometimes life stinks, and you just have to face it, knowing that things will get better. Sometimes you just have to look at what is going right and what is good in life to move on. Like thinking about my sweet big doggie who just had her first birthday this month.

Zipidy's Week 4:10/22/04 |
I love my life. I had to remind myself of that several times this week. I have a super person I've been married to for 20 years. That helps. People at work seem to be amazed that I could actually enjoy the work that I do. Life is too short to go through it without finding enjoyment in the things you have to do. I think you can find good in most any situation, even the tough ones - and I've gone through plenty of hard times. Have you ever thought about what qualities a person has who spends endless hours doing this kind of stuff? |

Zipidy's Week 3:10/15/04 |
I love my job. I learn things every day. One of the things I like the best is that I get to be creative. Creativity is the most important thing to me in a job. I think you can learn to love your work by projecting your qualities into your work. I used to paint paintings and illustrate. Now I get similar satisfaction by creating things for the web. Sometimes I get to create applications, where the results don't happen until the executable works, which is why I decided to learn java and move away from C programming. Learning to program has taught me patience. |

Zipidy's Week 2:10/8/04 |
I'm wondering if this blog is supposed to journal our wonderful and exciting experiences with the content of our weekly assignment. For example, maybe I should I give an example of a blockquote here like this:
One more thing, use of the font tag is deprecated and
now replaced by CSS, so I will change the font properties using a special
CSS class called: special. My bit of wisdom for the week: There is always SOMETHING to learn or discover within old, worn, and comfortable information. |

Zipidy's Week 1:10/1/04 |
